What are Acoustic Tests?

The Acoustic Tests or Acoustic Assessment of buildings concerns the verification of the sound insulation capacity of construction elements in buildings, and are carried out by Specialized Technicians and with equipment calibrated by a laboratory accredited by IPAC.

In the area of Building Acoustics, it is possible to analyse, through noise indicators, the level of acoustic comfort and its compliance with the fixed limits of space, always aiming at improving the housing quality of buildings. In the Ambient Noise area, it is possible to analyse permanent or temporary sources of noise (construction works), which produce harmful or disturbing noise for those who live or stay in places where their effect is felt.

What do we do at Becertif in the area of Acoustic Testing?

At BECERTIF we work with strategic partnerships, technicians and specialized companies, which allow us to carry out the following tests:

  • Evaluation of insulation to air conduction sounds
  • Evaluation of the insulation index to air conduction sounds in facades
  • Evaluation of the Percussion Sound Isolation Index
  • Evaluation of the particular noise level of collective equipment
  • Determining reverberation time

ACOUSTIC TESTS: WE SIMPLIFY IT FOR YOU

WHEN IS THE ACOUSTIC EVALUATION REQUESTED?

  • To fulfil licensing requirements;
  • For support in the resolution of disputes (complaints about noise, insufficient acoustic insulation, etc.);
  • For confirmation of acoustic design details in the construction process.

WHO CAN DO THE ACOUSTIC ASSESSMENT?

  • The General Noise Regulation (RGR), published by Decree-Law No. 9/2007, of January 17, defines Acoustic Assessment as being the verification of compliance of specific noise situations with the established limits.
  • The limits to be complied with, and regarding buildings, are those stipulated in the Regulation of Acoustic Requirements for Buildings (RRAE), published by Decree-Law No. 96/2008, of 9 June.
  • Pursuant to article 3, paragraph 6) of the RRAE: “The verification of compliance with the provisions of this Regulation must be carried out based on acoustic tests, carried out in accordance with the applicable standards (…)”. The RGR defines, in article 34, who is qualified to carry out acoustic measurement tests.” The tests and acoustic measurements necessary to verify compliance with the provisions of this regulation are carried out by accredited entities”.
  • In sum, only entities duly accredited by the (Portuguese Accreditation Institute) as a test laboratory, according to the NP EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard, have the technical competence duly recognized for the preparation of acoustic tests necessary for the Acoustic Assessment process.
